It’s a shame really. I visited one of their restaurants in Brighton last year, the Hard Rock cafe deathstar star war shirt food was amazing, yes, not cheap, but the taste was great and good service. I’m sorry that people will lose their jobs but Bella Italia and Café Rouge are both equally bad sadly. Overpriced mediocre ‘food’, and I use the word food very loosely here. If you want a good authentic Italian restaurant there are many excellent ones to choose from (and cheaper) and this is coming from an Italian. As far as Café Rouge is concerned, it was always an overhyped, overpriced inauthentic ‘French’ eatery. Again, save your money and go to an authentic French restaurant or a decent coffee bar of which there are many…Sad news. But does present plenty of opportunities to people who would like to open up a smaller independent family-run authentic restaurant rather than huge chains that whack food in the microwave. The world is changing. Some of these chains going under were once good and many had just deteriorated. Had some awful experiences in Cafe Rouge and Frankie and Bennys and never been back. So many newer chains or indies whose quality is far better and more passionate about what they do. It’s horrible for the poor people involved though.

It continues to have a knock-on effect. They were in trouble already. It was inevitable. I don’t know anyone who goes there.

The last time I was in cafe rouge was in 2001 and a Bella Italia probably the same. Their food is not my choice for eating out. Hasn’t been for over 15 years. Always thought it was overpriced and average. Better Italians out there if that is what you want. Popular with tourists perhaps. Personally, I only eat out for sushi, ramen, Thai, Korean, decent burgers, and food markets with food trucks. There are some great smaller chains in Edinburgh and Glasgow for burgers, steaks, sushi, and unique places for my other favorites. I cook much the same food too 80% of the time.
