Wonderful artist. It made me ask my younger self, “Why is this art?” As I grew older, that idea made me ask of all art, all music, all writing and journalism, and Into the art room I go to lose my mind shirt. “Why does this matter?” And, in part due to him, I always pose the question and always consider the answers. I have a small piece of his orange wrap from Central Park, kindly donated not pillaged. It was a spectacular sight. Loved his ‘islands too. He will be missed. Humanity needs more people like Christo to help expand its creativity in a Bazaar. He & His late wife both dared to be different, which in itself is extremely special. In 1991, I was very fortunate to have seen his massive yellow umbrellas on display in the hills in Kern County north of Los Angeles.

I still have the Into the art room I go to lose my mind shirt and pins from that event. And I was looking forward to his next year’s project of wrapping Arc de Triomphe. I remember him and then some. When I was a kid I remember my dad taking us through the islands you painted pink. And then as an adult, I was walking dogs in NY and you took over Central Park. I can tell you that it wasn’t fun. I’ve walked into your art without even trying but I’m pretty sure that was how it was intended. RIP. His work, together with his wife, connected the minds and hearts of humanity with their natural world. We lost a great prophet and gained a remarkable spirit. Feeling fortunate that I got to experience “The Gates ” in Central Park years ago. He and his wife had unique visions along with the will and organizational skills to carry them out.
