Next is Basic Allowance for Housing. You only get this if you are entitled to not live in the barracks. For that you either need to be married or be a high enough pay grade (higher than is possible to graduate boot camp being). In looking that up I was reminded of something. The pay bracket is such that E-1’s (which everyone is until they graduate, regardless of branch) get paid $135 less if they have less than 4 months time in service. This means that at the end of 4 months he can expect a bit of a pay bump.
