Do you mean saw a Jesus is my savior fishing is my therapy shirt shark or sawfish? Yeah, they are extremely endangered, their snout makes it very easy for them to become tangled in nets. ESPECIALLY because they give birth in freshwater, so when they swim up rivers normal finishing nets and abandoned fishing line, as well as obvious other trash, causes them a lot of problems. This is even more devastating for the baby’s who will die much easier if caught.
Though in places like Australia they are highly protected and only a certain group of people can fish for them because they are very regulated about it and it’s sacred to them. Though the protection for this shark and ALL sharks should be expanded. Our Environment has been devastated by man , nothing suffers much like our environment …..our Oceans and seas are filled with bottles, rubber bottles, waterproofs , chemical wastes ………name it, we are living a life of carefree, recklessness and absolute neglect …some creatures are already gone ………a wake-up call.

Nice piece of article on the endangered species “sawfish”. But some of the reasons apart from what you named in your article could be plastic pollution and climate change.
These factors in recent times have caused a great deal of marine species migration and that of extinction.
We need to protect our marine species from these factors most especially plastic pollution in our oceans. Human beings but we people should care more about other people spread love and understanding to everyone understand problems emotionally physically mentally financially and be emphatic to everyone In areas where the sawfish are heavily protected, their numbers are starting to increase again. Florida is a prime example of this. So before you say these magnificent rays are doomed, please look into the research a little more deeply, as well as the efforts people are making to ensure they can return. The gray whale suffered a similar fate, but the population rebounded under human protection to its original numbers off the California coasts.
Never knew why a sawfish looked like a saw – looked it up: Barbara Wueringer has an answer: the saws are both trackers and weapons. They’re studded with small pores that allow the sawfish to sense the minute electrical fields produced by living things. Even in murky water, their prey cannot hide. Once the sawfish has found its target, it uses the ‘saw’ like a swordsman. Mar 5, 2012Reading down the comments here, why is it no surprise that the worst seems to be made by Americans. I apologize for my words to the few good Americans who do care for the environment. There are just way too many of “us”. We are killing off our fellow travelers on spaceship Earth. Too many greedy people…too many people. We ARE the cause of the next Extinction Event. In Australia, so many of our iconic wildlife are nearing extinction with the help of our greedy governments and their developer mates. The Premier of NSW is known as Gladys#KoalaKiller. It is predicted that Koalas in NSW will be extinct soon due to the destruction of their habitat for real estate. Having read so many of the comments on this I find it rather humorous. We have all those who want to save the planet, blame humans for all the problems but don’t accept the evolution of man. Man is responsible for everything that has progressed the world to where it is now, would they rather we were still in caves, shacks, or tents? Battery-powered travel is wonderful but my god the people who actually have to mine the materials, a death sentence. How do we recycle the power packs is another issue, currently there is no way which is beneficial to the environment. Please have a go but don’t expect a reply.BBC.com
