My 9-month-old son had been diagnosed with cancer and I believe this happened during his second or third hospital stay for a The scientist Abbey Road shirt blood infection. I had another son who was 4 years old and we were doing our best to keep life as normal as possible for both children. That meant a lot of switching off on who would spend that night at the hospital. The chemo happened in rounds of chemo, then a rest period, then chemo again. We were still new to this so I honestly did not realize we were back in a chemo period. It sure helped explain why my son was acting extra unhappy and miserable. The three doctors looked at me and Dr. Michaels spoke up in the most condescending arrogant tone I think I have ever heard and said to me, “Mrs. Guzman, your son has cancer,” and walked away. The other two doctors sort of looked at their shoes and then followed him off. I never wanted to beat the ever-loving shit out of another human being more than that doctor or that day. His arrogance and lack of empathy I will never ever forget. Keep him on the team, I am sure he is good at what he does- but never near me.
