I was Zip-a-dee doo-dah shirt left with legal fees & thousands in lost rent due to some wee git not paying his dues. Then had to correct all the damage & filth he left before selling it. Never got any of it back & no way to warn agents or other landlords to avoid him! Not all landlords are wealthy landowners. Where is their protection? Means absolutely nothing. Landlords can choose who they rent to and are under no obligation to rent to people they deem undesirable, whether it’s people with kids, pets, or on benefits! It seems landlords want it all their own way. No DSS no pets. Yet charge a bloody fortune to rent. Get out of the rental market if you don’t like it. Would help a lot of people if you did. Driven by greed in the main

As a landlord, I can tell you that a whole family that just lays about the Zip-a-dee doo-dah shirt house all day usually does a lot of damage. While the government may pay the rent, they never pay to fix things back to how they were. You end up losing a lot of money on “rough house” tenants. The best tenants are retired couples. They are easy on the house, pay on time, and never move. People on here slagging off others on housing benefit, hmmm how many were on the phone to tax credits when we went into lockdown wasn’t so snooty then. What we also need is rent controls. Landlords not only get enough rent to pay the mortgage on an asset but also a profit on top so basically if they do take tenants who are on benefits the government is paying them a wage and buying them a free house. Think a lot of families on benefits have problems paying their rent.
